This site hosts an audio-only feed of the T3 podcast (which is currently only officially uploaded to YouTube) for consumption in any podcast player. The motivations for the creation of this site are 1) I prefer all podcasts being in my podcast player instead of on YouTube 2) RSS enables anyone to use any player they like 3) an official feed seems unlikely since discussion around an audio-only feed has not come back up since the first episode, with only one mention of using RSS for the podcast on the forum and 4) I'm sure there are plenty more people like me who want an audio-only feed so this can be a way that I help out the community that I have derived so much value from over the years.
I will be starting a thread on the forum and if Kris or HoneyBadger requests that I take this down, I will. I'm also happy to move the site to an iX Systems controlled domain and/or hand off control and hosting of the site to them. If the site becomes official, the RSS feed can be used to federate to other platforms and be included in their search indexes as well.
Please be patient with new episodes - I did not want to spend a ton of time making a fully automated solution with a static generator right now so I'm just using Ghost. If the site becomes super popular or I'm having trouble re-uploading in a timely manner, I'll look into building a fully automated solution for ripping and re-uploading the audio.
In the meantime, the process on my end is not complicated but will take 5-ish min of manual interaction per upload. The process is below:
- When a new episode is uploaded to YouTube, Pinchflat will automatically download the audio as an MP3 with thumbnail and chapters embedded.
- When I get around to it (expect Friday evening/Saturday morning most weeks), I will create a new post in the Ghost CMS.
- In that post, I will upload the MP3, modify the post meta-data, and copy-paste the title and description from YouTube. The official source video will also be linked in the post.
- Once the upload to the site is complete, I will publish and an audio-only version of the episode will be available in the feed - ready to be played in any podcast player.
